The Dubai Municipality Hackathon is open to anyone aged 18 and above, whether a resident or visitor to the UAE. Participants can sign up as individuals or form teams of 4-5 people to collaborate on innovative solutions.

Individuals with innovative ideas or startups focused on urban development, sustainability, and digital transformation.

Government employees

Professionals from Dubai Municipality and other government entities exploring tech-driven solutions for public services, urban planning, and sustainability.

University students and academics

Undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students, as well as professors, researchers, and academic assistants from universities across the UAE.

Hackathon Challenges

The Dubai Municipality Hackathon presents the following four challenges, and each team can pick one to tackle:

Accelerating the issuance of building permits in Dubai through innovative technologies to achieve a smoother experience and more efficient, high-quality services.

* Experts from relevant sectors and departments in Dubai Municipality will provide guidance and insights throughout the three-day hackathon, offering teams valuable information and coaching. 

Expected Submissions   From Participants

Participants will work individually or in teams of 4-5 people to develop innovative solutions addressing the Dubai Municipality Hackathon challenges. Over three days, teams will conceptualize, design, and present their ideas.

A Minimum Viable Product (MVP)

 A basic version of a software solution, leveraging AI or automation, demonstrating key functionalities and potential impact.

A functional prototype or demo

A working model, simulation, or proof of concept demonstrating the solution. (For industry-specific challenges, this could be a digital 3D model, simulation, or feasibility analysis.)

Data visualizations

Graphs, charts, or infographics highlighting the problem and the impact of the solution.

A Short video Pitch

A concise and compelling video (1-3 minutes) explaining the idea and its benefits.

Wireframes, mockups, or UX/UI prototypes

Visual representations of the user experience and functionality.

* These outputs will help teams provide integrated solutions that can contribute to Dubai's smart and sustainable future!

Evaluation Criteria and Process

At the end of the Dubai Municipality Hackathon, teams will pitch their solutions to a panel of judges consisting of experts in urban development, technology, and sustainability. This is an opportunity to showcase innovative ideas, receive valuable feedback, and engage with industry leaders.

  • Dubai Municipality Rights – Dubai Municipality holds a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, adapt, and expand upon all submissions for governmental, research, and operational purposes.
  •  Third-Party Content – Any open-source or third-party materials used must comply with licensing terms and be properly credited.
  • Confidentiality – Participants must respect and protect any sensitive information shared during the hackathon.
